Digestive System – Body Opera

Open wide
Have a bite
Wholesome food
For your delight

Into the mouth
Teeth rip and tear
Chomp and chew
Saliva everywhere

Tongue moves around
Back and forth
Swallowing

Down the hatch
The esophagus
Peristalsis
There is no rush

Into the stomach
Agitate
Acids and enzymes
Eat away

Squishing and pushing
And breaking down
everything we ate

Now the partially digested food
moves through the small intestine
Breaking it down into molecules
Small enough
for our cells to use

Then the nutrients & vitamins
are carried by the
Blood to the body

We digest our food
so our cells can use it
to make energy
for the whole body

Now entering the large intestine
water is absorbed
from the broken down food
Slowly, slowly the Large intestine
moves the waste
through the anal canal

We digest our food
so our cells can use it
to make energy
for the whole body x2
